On Friday, I spent the last 30 minutes at work catching up on the day’s news. I was reading another article about Anna Chapman and the Russian spy ring that the Federal authorities had recently broken, when a few of my male co-workers came by to drop off some paperwork. One of them saw the article I was reading, immediately zoomed in on the Chapman's pictures and said enthusiastically “That’s that female spy they caught, right? Aw man, she’s so damn hot!” The other guys took at look and agreed, so I turned to this group and asked them “Aren’t you guys angry or as least concerned that this person has committed treason against the U.S.?” Their responses were to the theme of “she’s hot, so what? She got caught and she’s gonna pay, but they should go easy her because the crime isn’t that bad”. I was annoyed at this sentiment from my foolish co-workers.

I have always been amazed at how the public is not more upset at espionage against America. Everyday, the people of the United States proclaim, advertise, write, televise and create marketing ventures about how wonderful our country is…and it is a wonderful country. We now have a group a people who were caught committing espionage against our beloved country, but just because one of them apparently is good looking, the crime becomes not so bad? That is absolutely ridiculous. When Anna Chapman finishes serving her time, what is America going to do? Offer her book deals? Give her compensated guest spots on TV talk shows? Give her millions of dollars so that a movie can be made about her life as an anti-American intelligence agent who struggled with her emotions while betraying this country or some similar crap that is equally idiotic? Are we, as a country, really that stupid to allow this traitor to profit from treasonous acts just because people think she is “hot”?
Ugh, it makes me disgusted to even think of it. I know that the scenarios I mentioned has not occurred, but I can realistically see how it can actually happen in the future…just because people and the entertainment world seem to only see who is “hot” and ignore what they truly are and what they are about. Yes, Anna Chapman is beautiful woman who is able to have her picture taken well, BUT SHE IS A SPY WORKING AGAINST AMERICA. There is no reason why the justice system should not employ the most stringent punishment against this agent, which appears to be a maximum of 5 years in prison. Personally, I think that people guilty of espionage against our nation should face capital punishment, but I am sure many would tell me that is cruel and unusual punishment.
Well, since I don’t think I can convince the courts to see my way, at the very least I do hope that the legal system will prohibit her from making any kind of profit from her traitorous activity within the US…because rewarding crimes like these is an insult to the national injury that Anna Chapman has already caused and should not be tolerated.
